This weekend we were in Boston at College Family Weekend. It was nostalgic to see our oldest enter her freshman year at college. The landscape indicated that the season was changing as the trees were beautiful colors, the weather was cooler and surroundings were picturesque. I also noticed a change in season as we arrived to stronger hugs, more conversation and a greater value of time together. We don't really want to "send our children off" but Ecclesiastes 3 speaks of seasons. We may enter some seasons with reservations, other seasons we may welcome with open arms. At some point we may reminisce at seasons past and perhaps speak of seasons to come.
I see friends with seniors this year and wonder what happened to the little toothless child. Having one of my own, I wonder where the years went. This is what we prepare them for and as the seasons change for them, they change for us as well. Do not fret...it is a season and in time to come, there will be another.
A time to be born and a time to die;
A time to weep and a time to laugh.
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them.
A time to embrace and a time to refrain,
A time to search and a time to give up.
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
Ecclesiastes 3: 2,4-7
We place our children in the hands of our Lord and Savior believing that we have worked towards this day of letting go-just a change of seasons.
