When I was still working, I travelled daily past San Jacinto River on Hwy 59 on my way home. Often when it rained [before the drought], I would see track marks where vehicles would drive down to the river to go fishing. One day I saw a red truck stuck in the mud. I wondered what had caused that individual to drive through the mud. Did he really like fishing that much that he would risk getting stuck? Or was it that he needed food to make it through the day? Did he just want to relax and thought the chance was worth it? One thing was sure…he did not consider the consequences and now he was stuck!
What is it that drives us? What drives us so much that we would risk “getting stuck?” One day my husband and I were driving through a long stretch of solitary road. We were listening to the radio where a speaker was trying to read a verse but the interference was too strong for us to receive it.
Not being able to make out what he said, I wondered what verse was distorted by interference. Then I wondered if that is what happens to us. We get stuck because we do not weigh the consequences of the sin against our human desire. The weight of our sin is heavy and when we carry it with us, we can get stuck. I was able to determine that the verse he was reading was Psalm 1:1. We may read God’s word but we do delight in God’s law? Do we meditate on it day and night? We allow interference to get in the way and distort His message to us. It is our responsibility to keep from “walking in the counsel of the wicked.” If you know its wrong, don’t do it! Why would you willingly go into a muddy path where you stand the chance of getting stuck? If we don't go there, we can't get stuck!
