He's Gone

For a week now we have been monitoring my Uncle David who was placed on hospice last week.  It has been an arduous responsibility.  My cousins have been awake with him around the clock.  We walk in and his bedroom is the first bedroom on the right.  With the door open, you could see him in his bed.  Yesterday, my uncle lost his battle with cancer.  I went to be with my cousins in the middle of the night.  With the technicalities completed, I was not aware that he had been removed and when I walked past his room and glanced left, I saw that the bed was empty and I knew he was home.

The bed is empty
The man is gone,
God has come
to take him home.
His daughters watch
Grandchildren grieve,
Now he is gone
Who would believe.
A man whose home
Became our own
And God has come
To take him home.
A man well loved
with open arms
Protected all of us
From harms.
Yes the bed is empty
and man is gone,
God has come
to lead him home.

Today I am thankful for all the years I had with my uncle, I am thankful for his demonstration of love for others, and I am thankful that he is no longer suffering.
