There is a weekly show called The Voice that airs on Monday nights. The "judges" sit facing opposite the contestants and judge them solely on the quality of their voice. A couple of episodes ago, a childhood friend of one of the judges was on. She did not buzz in or turn her chair to choose him. In fact, based on his voice, she did not recognize him.
I would suggest that one of the reasons she did not recognize the voice is because she lost touch with this friend. I would venture to guess that if a woman went into a room blindfolded, she could pick out her husband saying "I love you honey." Why? Because she spends time with him daily and probably hears those words daily.
When Jacob deceived Isaac into giving him the blessing by telling him he was Esau, Jacob said " the voice is the voice of Jacob but the hands are the hands of Esau." [Genesis 27:22] Jacob knew this because of the time he had spent with his sons, he knew their voice.
So it is with God. Moses was able to hear God's voice because of the time he spent with God. Daily walking with God builds intimacy-intimacy makes it easy to hear and recognize His voice. If we love someone, we honor them and spend time with them and know them....we know their voice even when we can't see them.
Listen carefully, are you hearing God's voice?
You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness. Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice. Deuteronomy 4:11-12
