Today he walks!

This is a poem I wrote for a special couple last year when they closed in on their own son's graduation.  Today is my turn.  I will watch the son that I love, the one I have instructed, the one God entrusted to me, walk the stage.  I have heard from many people and I thank you for your prayers especially during this trying time for our family.

This morning as I awakened and walked out of my bedroom, I saw his cap and gown with his stoles hanging from a doorway and I imagined his toothless grin, his outstretched arms for his momma and the many times I rocked him to sleep protecting him from the dark.

Don't let anyone fool you, there will be tears even if they are in the seclusion of your own closet, there will be mixed feelings, but there will also be a sense of pride for what they have accomplished.   He continues to surprise me and I will continue to be a momma who prays for her child and God's will upon his life.  Enjoy the poem.   Today, he walks!

David's Song

This was no April Fool’s joke,

It was our firstborn son.

Today he walks the stage,

Soon he will be gone.

There are no Upward games,

Those are days of past.

We knew this day would come

The first…and yet the last.

We saw his toothless grin,

As we walked him down the hall.

That was so many years ago

Each one we can recall.

His days of school behind him

New adventures soon to come.

His life as an adult

For all, have just begun.

God gave him to us one sweet day

Now we must let him go,

So God’s own plan can be fulfilled

For all the world to know.

There are no words for parents

Who turn over their own son,

To a world with open arms

To take another on.

You know you can take comfort

In the road you helped to pave

All the words of wisdom

And advice you gave.

There was another Father

Who gave his only Son,

He did it willingly

So ours could carry on.

So watch him walk across the stage

And know he’ll represent;

The God who called him to this life

With purpose and intent.

Thank you to my dear friends Tracy Vetitoe and Marilan Logan for their continued support and prayers.  Your words always so timely.
